What kind of dog should i get?

My cat just died & i feel very empty without him.
I already own a golden Retriever but shes my mothers dog – so i hope u can figure it out

And my cat was well..mine.
But anyways…my mom keeps looking at dogs and stuff that are up for adoption.
So i don’t really feel guilty for asking this…
But i dont know what kind of dog is best for my family and i.
We like medium to big big dogs.
Regular exercise and otherwise we don’t really care about the shedding & stuff. But we would like an easy to train, friendly dog.

What i had in mind was either a German Shepard or a doberman.
good dogs?

Getting a dog is a huge commitment and surprisingly much harder than owning a cat. If you are ready for a dog and you will be living with your mom for a while your mom’s dog would probably get along best with a Golden retriever. Dogs seem to really like dogs that are the same breed as they are. We run a pet company and have been pretty surprised how some dogs love other dogs that are the same breed as them. We had two dalmatians that were very shy and didn’t have any friends. We randomly matched them up together and they played like long lost sisters. Make sure your prepared to exercise your dog everyday and hire a professional dog walker if your gone for long hours during the day.

do you think a 14 year old could raise the dog all by himself, like the costs and every thing by him self…..?

i am planning on teaching tennis lessons and raise the money for the dog i want to buy… and do you think 500$ is good enough and what would you chose a terrier or a Yorkie or a Lhasa Apso or a Maltese? i cant choose , plus i live in a little apartment with my parents OFOURSE i am 14…… and my parents don’t know bout this….ha ha

No, dogs require a lot of time and money. You should wait until you have a career going after college. I spend about $50 a week at the pet store for my 2 dogs and it is not uncommon to spend $300 at the vet for one of them even though they are young and healthy. On top of that dogs need daily walks, exercise, socializing and attention that you are not going to be able to give them until you settle down after school.

what type of dog could i get for my child?

I want to know what type of dog would be suitable for my son? He is Dual diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Severe Developmental Delay, Severe Autism and Epilepsy. He also has no Communicationn, Is there a good breed of dog we can get?

You should definitely talk to a professional that trains dogs for special needs. My educated guess is a Golden retriever. They have tons of energy and are very smart and friendly. Just make sure someone can give the dog plenty of exercise along with you or a professional dog walker taking them around the neighborhood everyday.

what is a cute name for a scottie dog?

Why does my dog bark whenever someone leaves the house?

could it be separation anxiety or something?
whenever my dog hears keys jingle, or sees someone put their shoes or jacket on, he starts barking like crazy. i don’t know why he does it!

This is separation anxiety and more importantly your dog thinks they are in charge and not you. In a wild dog pack the alpha dog can go wherever they want but a lower member of the pack would never take off without permission. Since you are viewed as a lower member of the pack your (alpha) dog can’t make sense of the situation. To become the alpha dog make sure your dog listens to you, doesn’t get away with stuff and obeys your commands. For example if your dog whines because it’s hungry do not feed it dinner right away. Wait until the dog is no longer whining and before they get their dinner they have to sit or any other command they know. Also when you or your dog walker are out walking your dog don’t let your dog pull on the leash. As soon as they do change directions because you are in charge. When you’re not leaving the house jingle your keys, put on a jacket, put your dog in another room and don’t leave. Get your dog used to being left alone whenever you feel like it because your in charge. Your dog will be a much happier dog when he no longer thinks he’s in charge.

Dogs in Public Parks?

I own two playful dogs, one collie and one greyhound mix, both extremely energetic. We live right across the street from a big public park that doesn’t get used much. For the past couple of evenings my family and I have been taking the girls to the park to play catch where they love to run. Dogs and people pass without so much as a glance from my girls, but the looks we’ve been getting for having them off their leashes could kill. When playing they completely ignore everyone around them and just have a good time. I clean up after them and they are very well behaved. There are no dog parks where I live and I hate to spoil their good time. Should I stop playing with them and keep them on their leashes?

First you have to make sure that they come immediately when called. If they are on voice command I would recommend going at the crack of dawn instead of evening. I have two Labradors that also need to stretch their legs. While a lot of people are out in the evening 99% of people are sleeping or getting ready for work early in the morning. The last thing they are thinking about is going to the park. Be careful I recently got a $250 ticket for having my dogs off leash even though they were just playing fetch in the ocean, come immediately when called and don’t bother anyone. If you stick to the park early in the morning on workdays you should be fine. In the evening just have yourself or your dog walker take them on a nice dog walk.

Why is my bulldog limping?

I have an English bulldog who started limping two days ago. It’s weird because he is still as hyper as always. He still runs all around the house (without a limp) and jumps on us, but when he is just walking casually he limps. I believe the limp is coming from his front right paw. I’ve checked his paw and pads but I don’t see anything wrong, but his pads are a little rough. My vet appointment isn’t until Friday so I am getting some opinions.

He might just be sore. If I do squats at the gym I am still running around with lots of energy but when I start moving around I kind of limp around because I’m so sore. Good luck, hopefully it’s nothing too worry about.

How do I get my puppy to interact with other people?

I have a Yorkie poo puppy and all he wants is ME! I am the only one he will come to and go to the bathroom next too. I am the only person he will not run away from if I walk towards him. So how do I get my puppy to trust my mom and dad more so he will treat them like he does me?

It is very important you fix this quickly. You do not want a dog that is overly possessive of you. First make sure your puppy is not self feeding. He has to have set meals so that he responds to treats during training. Next make sure you or your dog walker let him meet lots of new people. When he meets new people give them a treat for him. Once he gets used to meeting lots of people when he’s hungry and they give him treats he should quickly look forward to interacting with other people.

I have an Akita/golden retriever?

hey just wondering if anyone else has one and if they could give me some info… i wanna know how she is gonna be with water and such? she is great with little kids so far she is 3months.

The important thing is to just get her out socializing with dogs and people on dog walks as much as possible. I would avoid dog parks at least for now but dog walking is always a good way to socialize. As far as liking the water it’s up to her. She is a golden retriever so she will probably love the water but it’s not certain. I have two Labradors. One loves the water and is practically a duck, the other one is almost 4 and has never gone past shoulder level in the water.

My German Shepherd Dog is Jealous from my new puppy?

I have a German shepherd “10 months” male .. he was really good and our relationship was perfect .. until i got a new “2 months” puppy female .. i got it so as to give him some companionship as he grew up .. he seems depressed and he doesn’t treat me the same way.
i am not allowed Dogs in my house so The older dog stays in the garden .. the young one is in a small room in the house cause I’m afraid of all the insects etc .. so I’m waiting a couple of months till i put her outside .. when i leave them together they keep running around etc .. she’s not afraid or jealous he on the other hand doesn’t obey any orders then .. and i fear that his play is too much for her taking into consideration the huge size difference .. p.s :- i give him extra attention and love ..

I give them their food separately .. and i spend more time with the older dog ..

The extra attention is a good start. Make sure you get him out on a dog walk everyday and some additional exercise where he can run. Fetch is usually the fastest way to get a dog tired. You do not want him to have pent up energy and for him to take it out on the puppy. Remember that the 10 month old is also a puppy. After his dinner every night spend 5 minutes with him going over tricks he knows and help him learn new tricks. German shepherds are very smart and need mental stimulation. If you give your dog extra attention, a daily walk, daily exercise and some training every day you should have a happy dog.
